    About Bikeworks

At Bikeworks, we believe everyone should have access to cycling to increase physical activity, wellbeing, and connectivity.

Why we are a social enterprise

We believe everyone should have access to cycling, but not everyone does. Buy social from Bikeworks and you’ll be supporting our Inclusive Communities Cycling Programme.

As a social enterprise we generate income through our trading activities. This means when you buy your Bikeworks Team Building experience, you are directly supporting the running of our All-Ability Clubs.

Delivered in parks and green spaces across London, our clubs provide a cycling experience for 3,000 disabled people and careers, who regularly come to access our incredible fleet of specialist cycles, alongside our experienced and welcoming team of Instructors.

    Our story

Bikeworks was established as a social enterprise in 2006 in the heart of London’s east end.

Founding partners Zoe Portlock and Jim Blakemore created the original vision for Bikeworks, inspired by London winning the bid to host the 2012 Games, seeing this as an opportunity to seize for excluded people and the wider community.

Over the years Bikeworks continues to prove itself as an agile and responsive social enterprise, evolving in response to the needs of our most excluded Londoners, to achieve more impact year-on-year, while actively collaborating with other partners and stakeholders to achieve this.

Having started life in the living room of our founding partners, moving over the years from location-to-location, including warehouses and shops, it was in 2018 that Bikeworks realised its vision contained within the original business plan, titled Olympic Bikes, and we moved into the Lee Valley VeloPark on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Never has accessing cycling been so important

The demand for Bikeworks’ All-Ability Clubs continues to grow, as disabled people, including people with MS, Cerebral Palsy, Dementia, and Learning Disabilities, and their careers, come to access cycling for physical activity, wellbeing and to connect with others.

In 2020 we launched a wider offer that includes Cycling for Wellbeing and the Ride-Side-by-Side.
